Annual Fair Of Keila Town
The most important project for Keila Kiwanis Club is to organize Annual Fair Of Keila Town. It is taking place in the middle of Keila on the square what has been the actual fair place through the centuries but during last fifty years was refused. There on the Fair place gather together trader and merchants from over the Estonia to represent big firms or home-made merchants themselves. The goods to sell are from large scale of everyday need. Kiwanis Club trades with huge pancakes and balloons. During the Fair there take place a lot of entertainment's: Folk Song and Dance Concerts, Horse Show, Popular Running Race through and around the Keila, Street Basketball Competition, trials between Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. Those trials between Kiwanis and Lions are interesting actions. The first one is Tug of War which is usually very equal and gathers lot of spectators. The second one is Petanque trial between our clubs. So this Annual Fair Of Keila Town is traditional event in our Keila and from many point of view also the best occasion through the year.
Children of Keila Town
Kiwanis Club of Keila cares about our children. The destination is school children in first classes in our town. During the school year we pay attention to our first classes by presenting the gifts in sense of important everyday means: glitters in the beginning of school year to survive in the traffic, school equipments or "Kinder Surprise Eggs" on Easter Day. Before the end of the schoolyear Kiwanis Club organise the Drawing Competition between all first classes in Keila to find the young actor who draws out the best characteristics of towns everyday life. The topic of the competition is "Our Keila". The best drawing will be printed on postcard which will be used as congratulatory card from everybody to everybody in Keila, in Estonia or anywhere. Because there on the card is imaged the logo of our Kiwanis Club we make us better to know. Those cards are used as "Happy Birthday" cards to first-born children in our town and near area.
Kiwanis As Sport Club
Each year, we take part in different sport events in our town. We have our own basketball team from Kiwanians which trains every Sunday to tourney in annual Basketball Competition of our town and in some other street trials. Kiwanis Club is the sponsor of the Baseball Team of Keila Town what is actually the best team of Estonia. Our final meeting of the season will be in Estonian Golf Centre studying and playing golf. There is one very interesting tradition - Football Match between Kiwanis Club and Lions Club at Keila's Athletics Stadium in the beginning of September. It is like the show with true parade through town. During the match there is a group of paramedics to give medical aid for crippled players or for simulates. There is also the competition for spectators to predict the right result - the prices are divided between participators after match. The match is very heated and tiring. Later there will be the sauna and at night nice party to get friends again. We have some other interesting trials between Kiwanis Club and Lions Club too, look previous chapter.
The Kiwanis Doll Project
During the season 2000/2001 the new project was successfully started - Kiwanis Doll Project. An engine for the project is member of our club - Ago Kokser with his wife Helve Kokser. The idea of Kiwanis Doll reached to us from Norway - Mr. Aage Meum introduced to us the worldwide kiwanis project, he brought the examples and explained the methods. Up now around 2000 Kiwanis Dolls has producted and divided to childrens-patients in Harju County Hospital and in Tallinn Children Hospital. The production is organized in local social centre where mainly handicapped people have found the useful activity by making the Kiwanis Dolls to help illness children.
The Organ Restoration
The project to restore the organ of Keila Miikael Church was pushed on by Keila Kiwanis Club. The church is from 13. century and is one of the most important historical monument of our town. It was clearified that organ was in our church already from 1482. At the begining of the XVI century during the Livonia War the church and organ were totally destroyed. The next organ came into Keila Church only just on 1843. The master of the organ was Walker from Germany. Before the First World War the organ was rebuild and made much bigger.
There was the fund established to collect money and restore the nice sound of organ. The idea was to involve firms and private benefactors for general aim.
On 9th of the November 1997 was the dedication of the restored organ. Due to the fund there were about 91.000 Estonian Crowns gathered. The names of the best benefactors are written on the wall of the church. The organ has real good sound now and makes tones never heard before, especially low tones.
